2009 Recap
Monday, November 2, 2009
Last couple months have been crazy!
Interview on Realtv Films at The Conversations Of Lucifer party with the band Amusement Parks On Fire.
Halloween 2009
Blood Brothers fx party
Had a blast on Halloween. I hung out with Jim Ojala spfx atrist of Deadgirl and his wife. They went as THE BROODS. Met lots of cool people including Jason Barry one of the stars from Titanic and many others. We hit up the annual Atononmous fx party then blood brothers fx party.
THE BROODS! Jim Ojala and his wife Beth and I went as Bride of Dracula
SCREAM AWARDS 2009
Im doing the best I can at keeping this thing updated. Here is what has also been happening! Recently I went to the Scream Awards w/Dave Navarro. If anyone went it was such an amazing show with such a HUGE line up of guests. I had the opportunity to mett and hang out with Elisa Dushku and met many other people. The experience was something else. Before Dave went and presented for the best comic we sat in the seats in the front watching Johnny Depp, Megan Fox,Justin Long and a few others. When it came time for Dave to present we all headed backstage where I ran into the cast of twightlight. I still havent seen any of the Twilights but its on my list. We skipped out after dave presented to avoid more press. The entertainment on the stage and fire was incredible. I would have to say Scream 2009 is the best yet! Next year I hope I get nominated for my role in Deadgirl. So please vote for me! Hope you enjoy the videos and pictures.
You can also watch Dave and I on the Spike Tv Pre Show. So check it out!

Shortly after the music video I was invited out to the short film " Conversations with Lucifer" fundraiser and silent auction. It was held at Terry Rossio's house who is the writer of National treasure, Shrek, pirates of the caribbean and many more and which held a private screening room.

"Deadgirl" (Or, The Most Feminist Horror Movie I've Seen This Side of 'Teeth')
As with every demographic or group, Deadgirl splits Feminists right down the middle (wow, didn't mean that to sound so gruesome). Over at Feministing.com, an interesting debate is taking place – but there are massive spoilers within, so be aware and read carefully.

"The thing's pretty much fucking brilliant."
– Ain't It Cool News
"One of the smartest teen horrors I've watched in some time...Two new faces at Toronto who show more artistic verve and bravery than many of the festival's masters are co-directors Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel, the filmmakers behind the clever, scary, unsettlingly sexual teenage bondage thriller..."
– IndieWIRE
"Forget what you've heard. Past any controversy, Deadgirl is a film beautiful in every way: about friendship, love, rejection, obsession and all the horror that comes along with such teenaged emotions. See it and make it the classic it deserves to be."
- Fangoria
"Deadgirl will remind you of the best of Cronenberg. Cleverly written, stylishly directed and morbidly fascinating. It isn't your average cookie-cutter horror film."
- Film Threat
"Unsettling. Audacious. This adolescent fantasy gone wrong proves difficult to dismiss."
- Hollywood Reporter
"An immediate indie classic and one of the best teen horror thrillers in years."
– BloodyDisgusting
"Floats smoothly between dark comedy and horror, and the result is a coming-of-age film like you've never seen before."
– SlashFilm
"Built around a stellar premise and a nonstop flow of shocking imagery and set pieces, Deadgirl is sure to be one of the most talked about films of the year."
– Twitch
"A disturbing adolescent male fantasy... Skirts the edge without going over and judging from the raucous reception, twisted auds clearly do exist for such blatantly 'wrong' material."
– Variety
"The bastard child of John Hughes and David Cronenberg!"
– Colin Geddes, Toronto Film Festival
"A teen-angst-and-terror opus."
– Fangoria
"The horror genre is in need of vastly original ideas like this."
– FirstShowing
"Legitimately frightening and surprisingly funny."
– Metro Canada
"A cautionary tale for the ages."
– San Francisco Bay Guardian
"The premise alone is pure brilliance, but where the film takes its teenage characters to is a real revelation of both talent and the male psyche."
–JustPressPlay
"Affords the viewer an intriguing examination of character, virtue, karma, and some really cool plot twists along the way."

New Feature Film "Trust"
Film Synopsis:
Put 12 Reality TV stars in a house together promising them another shot at fifteen minutes of fame and a wad of cash and they will do anything to win.... even if it ends up costing them their life!
Revenge is a funny thing, but when you see an opportunity to even the score, why not create a reality show where the prizes are alluring and the draw to those you seek to punish is irresistible.
Twelve people are chosen to enter the reality house, each desperate for that comeback. The only thing is, they can’t tell anyone they are going on the show as it adds to the big reveal of this new reality TV show which has challenges like the ‘Crystal Maze’ and the social interaction of ‘Big Brother’ with twists and turns thrown in at every step.
Being filmed twenty four seven, all of the contestants play up to the cameras, creating rifts between each of the house mates. Some have past relationships with others in the house adding to the already tense situation.
As people start disappearing from the house after they do one of the challenges, mixed emotions fly. People start to question what is going on as the rules change with every step. Others laugh it off as merely a ploy to boost ratings.
No one really knows whom it is they can trust; everyone is out for himself or herself.
As the number dwindles to just four people it then becomes apparent that the game is not what it seems. When you loose a challenge you loose permanently and with your life in the most horrific way.
With blood, gore, sex and intrigue, ‘TRUST’ is sure to entice any one with the obsession for reality shows and the fascination of horror.
Deadgirl Theatrical Release Stars/Directors in attendence
Dark Sky Films is prepping to do a special midnight theatrical run for their forthcoming festival hit Deadgirl, a horror/thriller about two teenagers who make a shocking discovery that not only threatens their friendship but also their lives. In a forgotten room of an abandoned asylum, they find a beautiful woman tied to a bed, and soon come to realize she is anything but dead. Below we've got a list of the announced midnight dates for JULY 25th, along with which director and/or star will be making a live appearance! Don't miss out!
Dark Sky Films announced today that the film’s cast members and filmmakers will be making special appearances at the film’s midnight showings on July 24th and 25th. The film will be released theatrically as a simultaneous, one-weekend, midnight only, roadshow-style theatrical event, currently in 9 major markets.
Says Dark Sky’s Marketing Manager Nicole Mikuzis, “The buzz on the film has been at a steady increase since its debut at the Toronto film festival, and we hope to build upon that momentum with nationwide midnight events. There is nothing like being part of a festival or midnight audience and sharing an experience as shocking, thought-provoking and polarizing as the one DEADGIRL provides. We would like to bring that type of festival ‘event’ experience to moviegoers around the country. No matter where it plays, it will be bound to cause some very animated audience reactions, much like those that we have seen at every screening thus far.”
It has been called “audacious” (Hollywood Reporter), “unsettlingly sexual” (IndieWIRE) and “pretty much f***ing brilliant” (Ain’t It Cool News). Thought to be too controversial to release, it would go on to shock festival audiences, outrage religious groups, and blow away midnight movie crowds from coast to coast. It remains one of the most daringly original and disturbing films of our time.
Shiloh Fernandez (RED), Noah Segan (BRICK), Michael Bowen (KILL BILL) and Candice Accola (JUNO) star in this story of two high school misfits who cut school to explore the remains of an abandoned hospital. The gruesome discovery they make will test the very limits of their sanity and tear apart their young lives forever: A woman stripped naked and chained to a table. She’s abandoned, beautiful and dead…or is she? From the producer of HELLRAISER and HEATHERS comes this depraved, poignant and genre-busing new indie classic about intimacy, morality and the horror of growing up. You may scream in terror, gasp with disgust, or debate it for days, but one thing is for certain: You will never forget DEADGIRL.

As far as Fangoria magazine Interview. I was contacted. There is suppose to be a feature on deadgirl with Directors Gadi & Marcel and Noah Segan and I. Suppose to be in the next issue, so we will see. I am working on two new projects that Im real excited about. As soon as things start rolling I will post more on that. So keep an eye out.
As far as the month of July besides work. July 2 is my birthday and I will be 29. I plan on making this birthday a little more special since it will be my last year in my 20's. Man, where does the time go. I could have sworn i had just celebrated my 21st! hehe :)
Lots of great stuff coming in July that we are all really excited about. I hear Deadgirl is ranked in popularity between Titanic and the tv show The Office. Pretty Awesome!

Whats new in 2009
Ruby Sky Mardi Gras Weekend in San Fransisco
Whats new in 2009? A bunch of stuff going on. I will be casting for a couple major horror films including a major label music video and a few cameos. It will once again be another busy year! February we screened in San Fransisco and had a blast! A friend of mine recommended Sir Frances Drake Hotel and i highly recommend it! What a lovely hotel I haven't slept so good in a long time :) Plus upstairs is Harry Denton's Starlight Room is located on the 21st floor. I got a chance to meet up with a good friend of mine Mythbuster Tory Belleci who also had a short film that screened at the festival called BUTTON MAN and we couldn't have picked a better place for drinks and dinner. The view of the city is breathtaking! I also got to see what San Francisco was like mardi Gras weekend. I headed out to a club called Ruby Sky. Its an upscale dance club cover was $30 and drinks ranged from $9 and up. I walked in and the place was PACKED! Sweaty bodies everywhere, not to mention the hot bodies dressed in mardi gras attire, beads and feathers dancing on stage. The DJ kicked ass. I wish I could have stayed longer but my stomach wasn't agreeing with me and I headed back to my hotel. I was there for about an hour.
Deadgirl once again is kicking off another fabulous year rocking the festival circut all over the U.S and International. There was a recent interview with Director Gadi Harel and he had mentioned in the interview about Deadgirl upcomming release..
Guillén: Can you speak about Deadgirl being picked up for distribution?
Harel: Yeah. NPI/Dark Sky picked it up for domestic. They love the movie and want to do at least a minor theatrical release. Landmark Theatre chain is also interested in the movie. They contacted us and said they had had a lot of success with Teeth. They felt they could hit the same markets and were interested in working with our distributor regarding exhibiting the film for a week or two in select markets where Teeth performed. So that’s the plan and I hope that still is the plan. If not, there are some other independent theaters around the country who are also really excited about Deadgirl. We might do those too. It’s definitely going to come out on DVD this Summer.
More on TWITCH INTERVIEW.
So there is much to look forward to this year and to everyone who is looking forward to Deadgirl release, there you have it folks! Look for Deadgirl at landmark Theaters and dvd this summer!
SCIFI'S Ghosthunters Fake or Real?
When Deadgirl had its World Premier at Toronto International Film festival I had the opportunity to speak, hang out and get interviewed by the VP of SCIFI. They came out and saw Deadgirl and LOVED my performance. I got to get on more of a personal level we discussed Ghosthunters and just how cool and down to earth the guys are. Its a great show! I am so proud how far they have come.
