Feminist Horror

Women v.s Women

"Deadgirl" (Or, The Most Feminist Horror Movie I've Seen This Side of 'Teeth')

As with every demographic or group, Deadgirl splits Feminists right down the middle (wow, didn't mean that to sound so gruesome). Over at Feministing.com, an interesting debate is taking place – but there are massive spoilers within, so be aware and read carefully.

"The thing's pretty much fucking brilliant."
– Ain't It Cool News

"One of the smartest teen horrors I've watched in some time...Two new faces at Toronto who show more artistic verve and bravery than many of the festival's masters are co-directors Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel, the filmmakers behind the clever, scary, unsettlingly sexual teenage bondage thriller..."
– IndieWIRE

"Forget what you've heard. Past any controversy, Deadgirl is a film beautiful in every way: about friendship, love, rejection, obsession and all the horror that comes along with such teenaged emotions. See it and make it the classic it deserves to be."
- Fangoria

"Deadgirl will remind you of the best of Cronenberg. Cleverly written, stylishly directed and morbidly fascinating. It isn't your average cookie-cutter horror film."
- Film Threat

"Unsettling. Audacious. This adolescent fantasy gone wrong proves difficult to dismiss."
- Hollywood Reporter

"An immediate indie classic and one of the best teen horror thrillers in years."
– BloodyDisgusting

"Floats smoothly between dark comedy and horror, and the result is a coming-of-age film like you've never seen before."
– SlashFilm

"Built around a stellar premise and a nonstop flow of shocking imagery and set pieces, Deadgirl is sure to be one of the most talked about films of the year."
– Twitch

"A disturbing adolescent male fantasy... Skirts the edge without going over and judging from the raucous reception, twisted auds clearly do exist for such blatantly 'wrong' material."
– Variety

"The bastard child of John Hughes and David Cronenberg!"
– Colin Geddes, Toronto Film Festival

"A teen-angst-and-terror opus."
– Fangoria

"The horror genre is in need of vastly original ideas like this."
– FirstShowing

"Legitimately frightening and surprisingly funny."
– Metro Canada

"A cautionary tale for the ages."
– San Francisco Bay Guardian

"The premise alone is pure brilliance, but where the film takes its teenage characters to is a real revelation of both talent and the male psyche."
–JustPressPlay

"Affords the viewer an intriguing examination of character, virtue, karma, and some really cool plot twists along the way."
– The Culture Pin

New Feature Film "Trust"

Film Synopsis:

Put 12 Reality TV stars in a house together promising them another shot at fifteen minutes of fame and a wad of cash and they will do anything to win.... even if it ends up costing them their life!

Revenge is a funny thing, but when you see an opportunity to even the score, why not create a reality show where the prizes are alluring and the draw to those you seek to punish is irresistible.

Twelve people are chosen to enter the reality house, each desperate for that comeback. The only thing is, they can’t tell anyone they are going on the show as it adds to the big reveal of this new reality TV show which has challenges like the ‘Crystal Maze’ and the social interaction of ‘Big Brother’ with twists and turns thrown in at every step.

Being filmed twenty four seven, all of the contestants play up to the cameras, creating rifts between each of the house mates. Some have past relationships with others in the house adding to the already tense situation.
As people start disappearing from the house after they do one of the challenges, mixed emotions fly. People start to question what is going on as the rules change with every step. Others laugh it off as merely a ploy to boost ratings.

No one really knows whom it is they can trust; everyone is out for himself or herself.

As the number dwindles to just four people it then becomes apparent that the game is not what it seems. When you loose a challenge you loose permanently and with your life in the most horrific way.

With blood, gore, sex and intrigue, ‘TRUST’ is sure to entice any one with the obsession for reality shows and the fascination of horror.

It has been called "audacious" (Hollywood Reporter), "unsettlingly sexual" (IndieWire) and "pretty much f***ing brilliant" (Ain't It Cool News).
Thought to be too controversial to release, it would go on to shock
festival audiences, outrage religious groups, and blow away midnight
movie crowds from coast to coast. It remains one of the most daringly
original and disturbing films of our time.

Shiloh Fernandez (Red), Noah Segan (Brick), Michael Bowen (Kill Bill) and Candice Accola (Juno)
star in this story of two high school misfits who cut school to explore
the remains of an abandoned hospital. The gruesome discovery they make
will test the very limits of their sanity and tear apart their young
lives forever: A woman stripped naked and chained to a table. She's
abandoned, beautiful and dead...or is she? From the producer of Hellraiser and Heathers
comes this depraved, poignant and genre-busing new indie classic about
intimacy, morality and the horror of growing up. You may scream in
terror, gasp with disgust, or debate it for days, but one thing is for
certain: You will never forget Deadgirl.

"An indie winner. Goes places few horror movies have dared to go before in its frank and disturbing depiction of necrophilia (combined with a surprisingly effective coming-of-age story!")
- Fangoria

Noah Segan who plays JT in Deadgirl gave an interview for fangoria magazine issue #285.
